The Area

The Deerfield Valley is a really great place to vacation. At least I'm told it is. I rarely leave the lake. But I've hiked Haystack, done the Bromley slide, and seen some of the sights. Here are some links and pictures to give you an idea of what there is to do around there.

http://www.visitvermont.com/ - Site about “Mount Snow Valley,” which is what the American Ski Company would like to call the Valley, notwithstanding the fact that’s it’s been the Deerfield Valley for two hundred years. The site’s kind of thin, as if they posted only those attractions which paid for membership.

http://www.moover.com/ - The Moover is the town bus system, which doesn’t serve the lake, but it’s a good source for info on area destinations

And here are some brief restaurant reviews by me:

Wahoo Eatery (at bottom of White House Inn Hill):
A fast and tasty burger, eat it there or on your dock
Old Red Mill (300ft N of Stoplight):
Nice deck for sunny afternoons and/or a tasty grilled dinner, kids menu pretty minimal.
Poncho's Wreck (150ft S of Stoplight):
Sort of endearing, a little more expensive than I wish it were
Red Anchor Seafood (100ft S of Stoplight):
   I've heard it's tasty
Brew pub (50 ft N of stoplight):
Good food, not too overpriced, good beer, and they're working on the local ambiance.
Dot's (100ft W of stoplight):
Wait is testament to good breakfasts
Roadhouse (N of Riverbend Market II on Rt 100):
Fixed-price inclusive dinners made worth it by taste and good service
Panda North (in West Dover's Movie Theater complex):
A good place to satisfy that Chinese craving.
Pizza Place in West Dover:
   Good pizza

Other Miscellaneous Advice:

Make sure to eat at the Wahoo Eatery in Wilmington, climb Mount Haystack, do the Bromley slide from 10 to 1 on a weekday (special ticket, small lines), buy your syrup in gallons at a family roadside stand, refrigerate after opening or it will mold, boil it and skim off the mold if that happens, and you'll have a great time.
